We are pleased to announce the 6th International Dyke Conference (IDC-6), which will be held at Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, India, between 4-7 February 2010.
The International Dyke Conference (IDC) is held at the interval of every FIVE years. First IDC was held at Toronto (Canada) in 1985, Second at Adelaide (Australia) in 1990, Third at Jerusalem (Israel) in 1995, Fourth at Cape Town (South Africa) in 2000-2001 and Fifth and last IDC was held at Rovaneimi (Finland) in 2005. Keeping in the tradition of previous conferences, the meeting is intended to bring together specialists in volcanology, tectonics, structural geology, petrology, geochemistry, geochronology, geophysics and exploration communities to foster exchange of new results on different aspects of dyke rocks. Conference themes will be centered around all aspects of dykes with emphasis on the origin, evolution and emplacement of dykes.
Four (two pre- and two post-conference) geological field trips are planned. These are -
- Pre-conference field trip 1: Mafic dyke swarms and synplutonic dykes emplaced within the Dharwar craton
- Pre-conference field trip 2: Dyke swarms of Deccan volcanic province
- Post-conference field trip 3: Wajrakarur Kimberlite Field
- Post-conference field trip 4: Mafic intrusive rocks from western Himalaya
